S.481 film relief has been a very important factor in establishing a strong and vibrant film industry in Ireland.

The extension of the film tax credit in Budget 2019 to December 2024 was a very welcome announcement for the industry to ensure Ireland’s continued competitiveness as a filming location.

The tax credit is 32% of eligible Irish expenditure for qualifying Producer Companies for feature film, television drama, animation and creative documentary projects. Computer games are excluded from the relief.

Subject to EU approval, there is a 5% uplift subject to conditions for projects produced in the regions. This uplift applies on a tapered basis until 2022.
